Insurance and Merchant Accounts

Today's post is all about business for therapists; massage clients, I'll write my next post for you.

Before therapist can begin working, many will require insurance. Even if a therapist works for an office or spa, some places require that they carry liability insurance. Basically this is in case a client sues you and protects you if you are working and your client slips and falls on an oil slick, breaking a leg. Some companies will include a free website as long as you pay your dues, so take advantage of the free advertising possibility if you don't already have a website.

If you are self-employed, you may also want to get a merchant account so you can accept credit cards and get check approvals. This helps when you advertise your services because accepting some form of payment other than cash is attractive to those who want to keep a paper trail and/or get mileage credit through their credit cards.

It's always a good idea to get all your tools in order before you start working; liability insurance and a merchant account are two basic starting points.
