Free Directories

Whether you are searching for a new therapist or starting out as one, where do you go? Especially if you are new to town or have limited resources.

The first place I go to look for anything these days (like everyone else) is Google. Google has a directory which allows you to search for businesses locally; they are the new phone book for the cyber world. The nice thing for new therapists is that a listing is FREE. Just fill out the online form and wait for them to snail mail you a PIN confirmation number. Once you verify that you actually exist (through the USPS), they will list your business in their directory. The process takes a few weeks, but it is worth it. Yahoo has a similar service (although they get less hits than Google), and the Yellow Pages also provides a free listing that you must resubmit yearly. All the free listings are basic, so if you want better placements or if you want to add graphics, all the directories offer upgrades for a fee.
